Overview
Clorinda Matto de Turner (Cuzco 1854- Buenos Aires 1909) was a pioneer in Latin American womens literature as well as a precursor in reformist movements and the fight for womens rights in Latin America. The publication of Aves sin nido (1889) is considered the first indigenist novel that, for the first time in Hispanic letters from the American continent, sets forth an intense social protest for the situation of unjust exploitation and especially denounces the tremendous oppression to which women were subject within the indigenous collective.
